• 1994 Development of MySQL started.
• May 23, 1995 First MySQL version released.
• In 2001, MySQL 3.23 was released.
• 2004 MySQL 4.1 beta release, and the actual version released in October 2004. (R-trees and B-trees, subqueries, prepared statements)
• 2008: MySQL 5.1 version released. (event scheduler, partitioning, plugin API, row-based replication, server log tables)
• 2008 January: Sun Microsystems purchased MySQL for one billion dollars.
• 2009 April: Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems. Oracle announced that it will continue to improve MySQL.
